Maicon Albuquerque (PhD)

Bachelor in Physical Education from the University Center of Belo Horizonte (UNIBH) in 2007. I am concluded my M.Sci in Sports Science(2010) and my PhD (2013), both at the Federal University of Minas Gerais, Brazil. I was an assistant professor in the Physical Education Department of the Federal University of Viçosa (2013 - 2016). Since, July of 2016 I am Assistant Professor of the Sports Department in the School of Physical Education, Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy at the Federal University of Minas Gerais. I am an advisor of masters and doctorate in a Postgraduate in Sports Sciences (UFMG) and Physical Education (UFV / UFJF). Besides, I am working at Laboratory of Sports Psychology (LAPES - UFMG) and the Laboratory of Molecular Medicine (Faculty of Medicine - UFMG). My main interest research areas are: Combat Sports/ Taekwondo; Motor Learning; Sports Psychology and Neuroscience.

Research Areas

Research on concepts and methods of Neuroscience applied to Physical Activities and Sports. The main investigations are 1) Evaluation of Neuropsychological constructs in Athletes; 2) Intervention with Physical Activities and Sports in the improvement of cognitive aspects.
Research on genetic markers, mainly related to the physical aspects (ACTN3 and ACE) and cognitive (COMT and 5 HTTLPR), associated with Physical Activities and Sports.
Research on the physical, technical, tactical and psychological aspects of combat sports, mainly Olympic Sports Combat.
